The City of Brighton is the Home Rule Municipality in Adams and Weld counties that is the county seat of Adams County, ColoradoUnited States.[7] The United States Census Bureauestimates that the city population was 35,719 in 2013.[5]


The town was named for Brighton BeachNew York.[8] Brighton was founded in the 1870s as a stage/railroad depot and farming community.  The town was originally named Hughes Station. The town was incorporated in 1887.[9] Among the notable scholars born there are Richard Ling, founding editor of Mobile Media & Communication, currently the Shaw Foundation Professor of Media Technology at Nanyang Technological University, and Max Pfeffer, Senior Associate Dean of the Cornell UniversityCollege of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Geography and climate

Brighton is located at 39°58′27″N 104°48′36″W(39.974184, -104.809926).[10]  It is often considered a suburb of Denver.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.1 square miles (44 km2), of which 17.1 square miles (44 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) (0.29%) is water.
